In a previous post, we defined the term indicia, where to get one and how they’re used for mailing promotional pieces. Today we’ll talk about a kind of promotional mail piece known as a self-mailer for which the use of an indicia is ideal.
What are Self-Mailers?
A self-mailer is, in essence, any printed piece capable of being sent through the mail without the need of an envelope. Most commonly, self-mailers are a single sheet of paper or card stock folded to meet post office size requirements to qualify for bulk rate postage. The folded pieces are typically held together with some form of adhesive tab or glue and are usually created in bi-fold, tri-fold, or four-panel configurations. Multi-page documents like booklets or newsletters can also be designed as self-mailers. While postcards are, technically, self-mailers, they’re generally considered to occupy their own category of direct marketing mail.
Why Use Self-Mailers?
Because a self-mailer doesn’t require an envelope to send or be opened upon receipt, a self-mailer can be designed with eye-catching graphics for immediate appeal; promotional messages can be prominent and readily seen by the recipient. Coupons or business reply cards can be directly included into the printed piece and separated by perforations. QR codes can be used to send recipients to a specific website URL for additional offers or discounts and thus, track the efficacy of the piece in reaching its targeted audience.
What About Cost?
With full-color printing more affordable than ever, self-mailers are a great choice for delivering your promotional message directly to existing and potential customers/consumers.
