In years past, the high cost of four color process (CMYK) printing meant only the largest companies and organizations could afford to have pieces printed in full-color. Smaller and mid-size enterprises were limited to using one or two spot colors at most for their printed materials. Full-color brochures, postcards, fliers, sell sheets, posters, business cards, etc., were simply too expensive to justify the expenditure. However, full-color printing is now well within the reach of practically any budget and in some instances, is less expensive to produce than the one or two spot color pieces from the past.
Perception of Full Color Printing
Because of the high cost of full-color printing in years past, companies or organizations that could not afford full-color printing were often perceived as being less significant and/or less successful. This kind of perception still colors our worldviews in that we tend to associate a lack of color in printed materials with something being inexpensive or cheap.
Make a Selection from the Full-Color Menu
With technological advancements over the past thirty years making full-color printing more affordable than ever, there’s no excuse not to consider going the full-color route. As discussed in Royalty free stock photography, the availability of royalty free stock imagery makes it possible to create vibrantly colorful pieces featuring professional photography for a mere fraction of what it would have cost to produce the same item twenty or thirty years ago. The days of reserving full-color for only the most special of projects is long past. Today, full-color can be the default mind set when contemplating the production of marketing materials for your company or organization.
