Printing Terminology: What Are C-Folds?

A c-fold (tri-fold) brochure in someone's hands.

A C-Fold is simply another term for Letter Fold or Tri-Fold. This type of fold creates six panels of roughly equal size on the folded sheet (3 per side) and is the most common method used when folding brochures, mailers, flyers, pamphlets, etc. C-Folds are a popular choice for documents printed on 8.5” x 11” paper stock because the folded piece can then be readily mailed in a standard, #10 business envelope. C-Folds can be used for any sized printed document with restaurant menus often utilizing the C-Fold method.

Like other folding methods, C-Folds are created after a piece has been printed using specialized folding equipment. Depending on the weight of the paper stock, it may be necessary to first score the piece before the folds are made.
