Hardback BindingFor a long life
Hardback Books (aka hardcover, hardbound or casebound) have covers made from durable paperboard coated with cloth or paper, with hinges at the spine to enable opening and closing. A printed paper dust-jacket often accompanies a hardback book, with the hardback cover itself remaining a simple single-color; alternatively a full-color design can be printed directly on the hardcover.
The book’s pages are either sewn or glued together before the cover is attached. Pages are commonly printed on acid-free paper to increase longevity.
Hardback books are meant to be tough and long-lasting. Good candidates for hardbinding are:
- any book trying to convey gravitas or luxury;
- yearbooks, cookbooks, corporate history books which are intended to last;
- and children’s books, textbooks, member directories and the like which need to withstand lots of handling.
Hardback books can be printed in wide range of sizes with a portrait, landscape or square shapes and few, many or very many pages.
