Digital presses have made it possible to individually customize each printed piece as it passes through press in a process known as variable data printing [insert link to post 35 variable data printing]. Along with this capability of producing individualized or variable pieces on a single press pass, comes the possibility of introducing individualized or customized finishing operations for each piece. One such customizable finishing operation is perforating.
What is Flexible Perforating?
Flexible perforating refers to the latest technology that makes it possible to perform custom patterns or sets of perforating on individual printed pieces during digital press runs. Currently the technology is limited to perforations following straight or perpendicular lines. However, the patterns of those perforations can change for each printed piece. This time-saving innovation ultimately saves costs as custom perforations will not require separate runs to implement.
